In short
- We keep only what the app needs to work: your sign-in details and your boards.
- Students can join a class without an account. Their work in a live class isn’t saved to our database.
- No ads, no selling your data, no advertising cookies.
- Want your data or want it deleted? Email us and we’ll do it.
Who we are
Clean Slate is a free online whiteboard for teachers, tutors and their students. If you have a question about your data, email cleanslatesupportoffical@gmail.com.
What we collect
Teachers and anyone who signs in
- Your Google account basics: your name, email address and profile picture, which Google shares when you sign in.
- Your boards: everything you put on them (drawing, text, images, PDFs and pictures you open beside the board, simulations you embed), the page style, a small preview picture of each board, and the list of people you’ve shared each board with.
- Sharing suggestions: when you share a board by email, Clean Slate can suggest people who already use it, showing their name and email.
Students joining a live class
- Students join with a class code and a first name. They don’t need an account or an email address.
- The name and the student’s mini-board are shared live with the teacher and the class while the class is running. They aren’t saved to our database, and are gone when the class ends.
- The browser keeps a random ID and the name the student typed, so rejoining the same class works.
Feedback you send us
- Your message, any screenshots you attach, and your email if you tick “It’s OK to email me back”.
- Device details (browser, screen size and similar) only if “Include device details” is ticked. You can see exactly what’s sent before you send it.
Stored on your own device
- Your sign-in session, and preferences such as pencil-only mode, the worksheet pane size and where you put the calculator. These stay in your browser.
What we don’t do
- We don’t show ads, sell your data or share it with advertisers.
- We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
- We don’t read your boards unless you ask us to help with a problem.
Who helps us run Clean Slate
- Supabase stores accounts, boards and images, and carries the live sync between devices.
- Vercel hosts the website and app. We use its visit counts (Vercel Web Analytics) to see which pages get visited and where visitors come from. They don’t use cookies and don’t identify you.
- Google handles sign-in, and delivers feedback emails to our support inbox.
Images you add to a board are stored so the board can show them. Anyone who has the direct link to one of those image files can open it, so avoid adding pictures you wouldn’t want shared.
Children and schools
Students, including children, can join a live class without giving us an email address or creating an account. Teachers who use Clean Slate with students are responsible for following their school’s rules on online tools. Parents and schools can contact us at any time about a student’s data.
Keeping and deleting your data
- You can delete any board from your boards page.
- To keep things tidy, a board that nobody has opened for 30 days is deleted. We email the owner about a week before, with a button to keep the board.
- To get a copy of your data, or to delete your account and everything in it, email cleanslatesupportoffical@gmail.com from the address you sign in with. We’ll reply within 21 days.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
